Chroma - Gridshell

Hyper Structure - Grid & Shell

Blurring the line between column grid and shell structure

We investigated the relationships within the column grid by first looking at the forces (isometric lines) within a normal column grid.

From here we traced the isometric lines to generate a structural logic from which we began pulling points down to create columns.

We then mirrored the top of the structure to create a base plate which was then scaled down to create surface to accept the gridshell.

We then began to aggregate this structure to create continuity and symmetry.

This process lead to a hyper structure somewhere between column field and surface structure.

From here we are looking to augment the structure through structural and aesthetic alterations to generate a final form that engages a dialouge with Nervi and Alto.

We are also looking at different means of coloration and fabrication related to the structural logic that ANSYS produces.
